9. Sherri Martel (Harlem Heat Vs Scott D'Amore & Mike Khoury - WCW Saturday Night 1995)

Video: Harlem Heat - WCW Saturday Night
A determined Sherri eyes her prey
Perhaps more familiar in her WWF guise as Sensational Sherri, this WCW bout sees Sherri Martel valeting for Harlem Heat, in one of the most one-sided tag team bouts you will ever see. While her men are in complete control, Sherri can't resist getting involved as the Heat cruise to victory.
Sherri and the Heat walk to the ring
Leading her men to the ring, Sherri looks genuinely menacing as an overmatched Scott D'Amore and Mike Khoury wait in the ring like lambs to the slaughter.

The match sees a succession of hurtful moves executed by the former tag team champions, as Sherri prowls ringside, pointing and barking orders.
A stunned opponent lies vulnerable on the ropes

Sherri connects with a hurtful punch
Despite such dominance, Sherri decides to add her own contribution as one of the opposing team is thrown onto the ropes incapacitated at 5:20 in. With the referee's attention diverted, and a member of the Heat holding the stricken wrestler, the valet delivers a hurtful, accurate punch to his face, leaving the opponent slumped and momentarily unconscious. She cheekily then bends down to look up at the face of the assaulted wrestler, with the commentators speculating as to why she chose to launch such a brutal attack.

Harlem Heat go on to clinch an easy win, but Sherri isn't done yet. With the pinned wrestler down and out, his team-mate is then grabbed by a Heat member after the match is over at 6:05 to leave him vulnerably open to attack. By this time, Sherri is in the ring, once again launching a vicious closed-fist punch to his face to leave him flat out on the canvas.
Sherri lines up another stricken opponent
A brutal performance, these were the actions of a valet who was determined to cause genuine physical harm to her team's opponents. Her punch delivered during the match was skilfully executed behind the back of the official, while the second hit was delivered once the match had been won, leaving the referee powerless to take any action against the valet's assault. With both D'Amore and Khoury tasting the power in Sherri's fists, this is sure to be a defeat that would live long in their memories.. Sensational indeed!
Hitting the target for a second time

8. Stacy Keibler (Sean Stasiak Vs Bam Bam Bigelow - WCW Nitro 2001)

Video: Sean Stasiak Vs Bam Bam Bigelow

Following their clash at the Greed PPV, Sean Stasiak and Bam Bam Bigelow renew acquaintances in this match at WCW's last ever edition of Nitro, with Stasiak receiving a tattoo from Bigelow if he loses. Once again, Stasiak's leggy valet Stacy Keibler would prove an invaluable asset in The Star avoiding the unwanted body art following the bout.
A coquettish Stacey teases the crowd
As usual, Stacy struts to the ring alone, teasing the crowd with the promise of a sexy dance before announcing the arrival of Sean. Standing next to her man as Stasiak talks himself up, Stacy dismissively looks out at the crowd until Bigelow's music strikes up and the big man walks to the ring, clutching a tattoo kit.

Acting as a human shield for Stasiak
In Stacey's first contribution, Stasiak holds the valet in front of him (left) at 6:55 as protection against Bigelow, a cowardly act but one which appears to work and allow the referee to grab the tattoo case from Bam Bam.

With the match underway, both men have their moments, with Stacy demurely observing ringside and applauding Stasiak's successes. He is soon in trouble though, and left stricken in the ring as Bigelow flies off the turnbuckle onto his opponent at 7:50 for what appears to be the decisive move. Bam Bam would soon realise though that things are never that simple when his opponent has a calculating valet in his corner.
Stacey makes her entrance as Bigelow pins Stasiak

As Bigelow is on the turnbuckle, Stacey has already mounted the ring apron, ready to intervene. Instantly drawing the attention of the referee at 7:55, she manages to enter the ring as Bam Bam pins Stasiak behind the referee's back. The frustrated commentator counts to 6 as Bigelow pins his man without the official noticing. By 8:05 the referee is still attempting to persuade Stasiak's valet to leave the ring, as Bigelow frustratingly gives up on the pin.
The referee's attention remains on Stacy

Stacy ruins Bigelow's plans

Rather than return ringside, Stacy chooses to stay on the apron - a crucial decision in the match outcome. With Bigelow carrying Stasiak on his shoulder and ready to execute his trademark finisher to clinch the match, Stacy holds on to Stasiak's legs at 8:15 to scupper Bam Bam's plans, with the referee seemingly unaware of her actions. As the valet departs the scene and back to ringside, Stasiak executes a hangman's noose to take the win.

In what was a relatively short match, Stacy displayed excellent timing, guile, and a willingness to use her feminine wiles to help Stasiak to victory. The leggy valet immediately drew the gaze of the referee as she mounted the apron, and managed to enter the ring while the match was progressing despite the official's best efforts to stop her. Bigelow then made a fatal error in assuming Stacy had left the apron, allowing her the opportunity to stop him executing his 'Greetings From Astbury Park' finisher and creating the opening for Stasiak to nail Bam Bam for the victory. While the referee would have been justified in disqualifying Stasiak with Stacy entering the ring mid-match, that would have been harsh on the blonde valet, whose actions left Bigelow found wanting. The referee's weakness in dealing with the valet's interventions also contributed to the outcome, as the beautiful Stacy once again proved her worth to the career of Stasiak.

7. Lady Blossom (Stunning Steve Austin Vs Dustin Rhodes - WCW Halloween Havoc 1991)

Video: Match Preview (09:58 - 10:10)   Match
Confident of victory pre-match
In this 15-minute time limit defence of his WCW World Television Title, Stunning Steve Austin once again takes advantage of the ringside presence of the beautiful Lady Blossom in helping him retain the belt. As any wrestler at the time who challenged him for the TV title was all too aware, not only would they have to overcome Austin but also the interventions of his distracting blonde valet, proving a near-impossible task.

In a short preview of the match screened before the PPV event starts, Blossom smiles demurely next to Austin, as the champion dismisses the chances of his young challenger.

A sizzling Blossom at ringside
The match underway, Lady Blossom looks dazzling (left) as she stands ringside in a cleavage-baring dress, posing and pouting at the cameras. As the match gets going, Rhodes has the temerity to clothesline Austin out of the ring at 3:55, drawing Blossom's attention in helping the champion to recover. She chooses not to intervene any further at this time though.

Austin tended to by his valet
A posing Lady Blossom works the cameras
As the commentators refer to Blossom's many interventions in Austin's matches, the cameras again focus on the valet as she poses and preens at 5:40 in to the watching world. Indeed, Jim Ross highlights how unfair it can be for Lady Blossom to be ringside to influence his matches, implying that Austin's position as a title-holder means the WCW authorities are intimidated from taking action against the valet.

A basic error at 7:55 sees Rhodes this time fly outside the ring, landing painfully ringside in close proximity to Lady Blossom. Coolly taking a second to assess the situation before her, Austin's valet again chooses to retreat and leaves things to her man. Austin launches numerous punches to his young opponent, drawing blood from Rhodes' forehead, all within the approving gaze of his valet.
A thoughtful Blossom considers her options with Rhodes stricken
Rhodes is in big trouble now, staggering around the ring with blood streaming from his face and with Austin in pursuit. With the action returning in-ring, Austin applies a painful hold on Rhodes, before illegally using the ropes for extra leverage. When referee Randy Anderson challenges this foul play from the champion, Blossom gets involved to defend her man at 10:40 to deny any wrongdoing, before breaking out in a calculated smile.
Blossom satisfied that she has duped the referee
Sizing up the challenger
As the tannoy announces four minutes left, an elementary error from Rhodes allows Austin the chance to bring Lady Blossom's talents to the fore. Austin chokes his young challenger on the ropes leaves Rhodes vulnerable, and the beautiful valet spots her opportunity. At 12:14 in, and with Anderson's back turned, she takes aim and delivers five perfectly-executed slaps to the face of the incapacitated wrestler, before fleeing the scene and visibly revelling in her intervention. While Jim Ross expresses his disappointment at her actions, Blossom has clearly left her mark both on the match and on Rhodes.
Lady Blossom lands with a forceful slap
With the time limit ticking away, Rhodes comes on strong and very nearly clinches an unlikely win, only for the referee's three-count to finish after the limit has been reached, meaning that Austin stays champion.
The final slap of Blossom's assault
Once again, Lady Blossom displays her willingness to get involved and attack any wrestler challenging for her man's title. For much of the match, she was happy to observe the action and pose to the cameras, but when needed she was happy to influence the referee and launch a vicious, sustained attack to Rhodes as he lay prone on the ropes. She was careful to wait for the referee's attention to be diverted before stepping in, displaying excellent awareness and skilfull valet intervention technique
The demure valet looks on approvingly as Rhodes is pummelled
The only slight disappointment was the fact that the opera-gloves Lady Blossom wore prevented the valet from executing her favoured nail-rake attack. An ungloved Blossom would surely have taken the opportunity to claw the bloodied Rhodes' face, as he lay incapacitated on the ropes. However, her slap attack prevented Dustin from recovering quicker from Austin's assaults, leading to the time limit running out before Rhodes could pin the champion. Even the commentators acknowledge her value, accepting that her presence would make it unlikely for Austin to be beaten.

An excellent night's work then for the buxom valet - this is one Lady you don't want to mess with!

6. Paisley (Prince Iaukea Vs Lash Leroux - WCW Superbrawl 2000)

When a valet's actions lead to her man securing victory it is satisfying enough. But when such interventions lead to a title being captured, it is doubly rewarding. In this final of WCW's Crusierweight tournament, The Artist Formerley Known As Prince Iaukea is once again accompanied to the ring by his beautiful and dangerous valet Paisley as he attempts to take the belt against Lash Leroux.

Paisley waits for revenge after Leroux's bottom-slap....
....before executing a well-placed kick to his midsection
Once the ringwalks are complete, Paisley grabs the mic to introduce her charge, after which Leroux cheekily slaps the valet's bottom. Enraged, Paisley seeks immediate retribution and with the bell rung to start the match, she stays in the ring as The Artist launches a vicious assault on Leroux to create the opportunity for her to exact revenge. As he holds Leroux down to vulnerably expose Lash's midsection, the valet delivers a hurtful kick to the stomach of their opponent in full view of the referee. While such blatant in-ring valet interference would usually result in a disqualification, the referee instead obligingly ushers her out of the ring, the valet still looking angry but satisfied that she has put Lash in his place.

The match continues as both men enjoy success, but a kick to the face of Leroux draws particular applause from a ringside Paisley. However, Leroux starts to gain the upper hand and puts The Artist out of the ring as Paisley looks on from a safe distance, choosing not to intervene further.

An upside-down Leroux, closely observed by Paisley
As the action returns in-ring, The Artist stuns Leroux and places him on the turnbuckle hanging upside-down, launching well-placed kicks to his opponent. With Leroux incapacitated and the referee berating The Artist, Paisley decides it is safe to get a closer view of the stricken wrestler, walking up the steps and delivering a playful slap to his foot as The Artist returns with another hurtful attack to his inverted opponent. As Lash collapses to the canvas in agony, the catsuited valet points and laughs mockingly.

While the bout progresses, Paisley chooses not to retreat ringside as she should do, but instead stays in the corner looking demurely on before climbing fully onto the ring apron. Somehow, the referee seems to ignore this fact, allowing the catsuit-clad valet to observe the action at close quarters and giving her privileged access to the in-ring activity.

Paisley stays on the apron as the bout continues

The valet vocally harrasses the referee when he fails to count to three during a pin of Leroux, before the Artist rams Lash's head against the turnbuckle where she is standing as his valet laughs in approval (left).

Before long though, Leroux has The Artist stunned in Paisley's corner, and prepares to execute a match-winning move. Paisley senses the danger and, unknown to Lash, moves into position behind The Artist.

Paisley clings on as Leroux falls backwards
As Leroux attempts to pull off a high-risk aerial manoeuvre, Paisley holds onto her man out of sight of the referee as Lash falls backwards into the ring. With Lash momentarily dazed, The Artist nails Leroux with a flying DDT to clinch victory.
The Artist and Paisley celebrate their title win
Paisley chastises the referee during the match for slow counting
From the immediate outset, Paisley plays a very active role in this match and executes textbook valet technique in helping her man capture the title. Her act of revenge on Leroux for having the temerity to slap her bottom was swift and clinically delivered, all in full view of the referee who appeared intimidated by the valet's presence throughout the match. Indeed, while other referees would have sent her back to ringside, she was instead allowed to stay on the apron for a full three minutes to harangue the referee, mock Leroux, and influence the match outcome.

Leroux in trouble as The Artist's valet looks on
Her key intervention in holding on to The Artist may not have been possible without her enjoying such a close vantage point to the action, although Leroux displayed a foolish naivety in choosing to execute what he hoped would be a match-winning move in close proximity to such an experienced valet. Top marks then for the catsuit-clad Paisley for a dominant performance, skilfully blending physical and verbal attacks on her opponent, referee intimidation, and a match-winning intervention out of view of the officials to secure victory. The purple reign begins!

5. Lady Blossom (Stunning Steve Austin Vs PN News - WCW World Televison Title)

Video: Stunning Steve Austin Vs PN News

This defence of Austin's WCW TV title against PN News is a 10-minute time limit match, where he is accompanied by the superior Lady Blossom - one of the premiere valets of the early 1990s, as she was to prove during this bout.

Blossom accuses PN of hair-pulling
After the announcements and ringwalks, Blossom demurely retires ringside, allowing the match to start. As PN News attempts to get the crowd clapping in his support, the valet dismissively shakes her head at the opponent's tactics. At 2:40 in, Austin then falsely accuses PN of pulling his hair during a clinch, to which Lady Blossom lends her support in chastising the referee. Jim Ross then commends the pair on their tactics in  playing mindgames with both the referee and Austin's opponent.

A pointed warning to News
As the match continues, News gradually acquires the upper hand, with Austin escaping from the ring at 6:20 in an effort to get some respite. PN then engages verbally with Lady Blossom ringside, to which the valet points a finger of warning to the challenger (left). At 6:40 in, as News re-enters the ring in close proximity to Lady Blossom, the valet appears tempted to attack but instead retreats to wait for a better opportunity.

Lady Blossom waits for her chance
Blossom senses the opportunity.....
After more in-ring action, a dropkick from PN News at 7:13 sends Austin ringside once again. News then climbs out of the ring himself to chase Austin, giving the champion's valet the chance she has been waiting for.  As the two wrestlers walk round the ring, Austin moves past Blossom and is shortly followed by News, who commits the cardinal error of turning his back on the dangerous valet (right). Spotting the opportunity, and with Austin diverting the attention of the referee, she launches a vicious nail-rake from behind to the face of the challenger at 7:33, leaving News dazed and vulnerable.
....and attacks News with the referee's back turned
With Austin now in charge thanks to his valet's intervention, the ten-minute limit slowly counts down, bringing a final assault from News. After leaving Austin on the canvas, PN flies off the top turnbuckle onto the champion in an attempt to clinch the win, but again he fails to consider the champion's valet. Lady Blossom can be seen climbing the steps onto the ring as News is climbing the turnbuckle, so that she is ready to pounce at 9:55 as her man is pinned. Jumping once again onto the back of Austin's opponent to choke and scratch the face of PN leaves the referee with no option but to disqualify Austin, allowing him to retain his title given that the DQ means the champ keeps the belt.

A second Blossom attack, prompting the DQ call
News then unwisely throws Lady Blossom onto the canvas, before she is rescued by Austin and they escape the ring with Austin's title intact.

A ruthless and calculated performance, Lady Blossom displayed many of the skills required to be a successful valet. She showed an ability to influence the referee, verbally attack Austin's opponent, and then launch not one but two significant assaults on News to ensure her man kept the belt. Taking advantage of News's naivety, she chose her moment carefully to get involved while the referee's back was turned, and pre-empted the challenger's top-turnbuckle move so that she could act quickly in saving her man. A textbook performance from a talented, ruthless valet.

4. Stacy Keibler (Sean Stasiak Vs Bam Bam Bigelow - WCW Greed PPV, 18/03/2001)

Stacy prepares to introduce her man
Following her spell as the alluring Miss Hancock, and prior to joining the WWE and becoming the Duchess Of Dudleyville, Stacy Keibler became valet to Sean Stasiak. This match, in the final PPV event put on by WCW, not only gave Stacy the chance to dust off her old Miss Hancock business outfit (and hence those AMAZING legs), but also allowed her to demonstrate some excellent valet skills in her man's bout against Bam Bam Bigelow.

Walking to the ring alone, Stacy introduces the 'Mecca Of Manhood' to the crowd, before helping Stasiak to distribute photos of him to the ringside fans. As Bigelow enters the ring, Shaun and Stacy wisely retire ringside before Stasiak finally enters the ring and the match starts.

Keibler vents her anger at Bigelow and the referee

A tight opening follows, with Bigelow taking the early initiative and leading to a hurt Stasiak climbing out of the ring at 6:05 in to seek solace in Stacy's arms. After comforting her man, Stacy turns on Bigelow and the referee, shouting at them in the ring (left) and allowing Stasiak valuable time to recover. A soothing ringside kiss from Keibler at 6:38 helps to ease Stasiak's pain, after which he re-enters the ring to resume the bout.

Bigelow gets distracted with Stasiak vulnerable

Further attacks from Bigelow lead to Stasiak leaving the ring for a second time at 8:15, with Stacy again rushing to his aid. Bam Bam this time joins them out of the ring, grabbing Stasiak at 8:25 with the beautiful valet standing right next to the two men. Momentarily distracted by the presence of the blonde valet, Bigelow allows himself to be nailed by Stasiak, prompting a celebratory loving clinch between Stacy and Sean at 8:40 before the attack continues.

Stacy and Stasiak celebrate as Bigelow lies stricken
Eventually the match turns though, with Bigelow flying off the top turnbuckle to land flush on Stasiak at 10:25. Somehow Stasiak kicks out at 2, but by this time Stacy has climbed onto the ring apron for her decisive input to the match.

Stacy decides to enter the fray
The hairspray thrown to Stasiak behind the referee's back
Grabbing the attention of the referee, she then turns her eye to Bigelow, attempting to lure him in with her feminine wiles. While Bigelow fails to be taken in and engages in heated discussion with the referee, Stacy unties her hair behind the back of the referee at 10:45 in, and appears to throw a can of hairspray to Stasiak out of view of Bigelow. As Stacy dances on the apron to further distract the referee, Stasiak sprays the hairspray in the face of Bigelow, temporarily blinding him and allowing Sean time to land a neckbreaker to seal the win once the referee's attention has returned.

Stasiak sprays Bigelow as Stacy keeps the referee occupied
Post-match, Bigelow receives medical attention ringside as Stacy mockingly looks on, hands on hips, smiling and satisfied with her work. A passionate kiss in the ring between Sean and Stacy and a playful slap to Stasiak's behind from his valet completes the action.

Stacy looks on as Stasiak completes the pin
Stacy displayed a range of valet skills during the match, from compassionately comforting her man, verbally attacking the referee and Bigelow, and acting as a useful distraction when the action spilled out of the ring. The ending was textbook valet technique though, with Stacy using a combination of femininity and guile to manufacture the win. The introduction of a foreign object in the form of the hairspray can, which was cunningly disguised in her tied-up hair, was a premeditated act and a real game-changer to which Bigelow had no answer. Being able to simultaneously distract the referee while passing the hairspray unseen to Stasiak, and then choosing the perfect time to withdraw her input and allow the referee to count the pin, was perfectly executed and led to a deserved win for Team Stasiak.

3. Debra (Owen Hart & Jeff Jarrett Vs Big Bossman & Ken Shamrock - WWF Heat, 03/01/1999)

Video: Hart & Jarrett Vs Bossman & Shamrock

For wrestling fans of a certain vintage, the word 'puppies' means only one thing - Debra McMichael in her pomp as a premiere WWF valet, accompanying Jeff Jarrett and Owen Hart to the ring and helping them secure numerous victories. This non-title tag team match, where Debra's charges took on the current champions Big Bossman and Ken Shamrock, is a classic example of how her intervention and feminine wiles could swiftly turn a match in favour of her men.

Clad in trademark tight-fitting business suit, Debra looks a million dollars walking to the ring. The match see-saws back and forth until the Big Bossman has Jarrett in trouble and goes for the pin at 3:40 in, only for Owen Hart to enter the ring to stop the count. Ken Shamrock then gets involved, chasing after Hart ringside to draw the attention of the referee. As the Bossman prepares to finish off Jarrett, and with the referee otherwise engaged, Ms. McMichael decides enough is enough and it is time to intervene.

With Jarrett in danger, Debra goes to work

Strutting onto the ring apron at 3:50 instantly grabs the attention of Bossman, and Debra then proceeds to unbutton her jacket to give the entranced wrestler a better view of her assets. Beckoning him towards her seductively with a manicured finger (left), Bossman has forgotten all about the stricken Jarrett and as he gets up close and personal with the beautiful valet she moves his hand to her bottom at 4:15 to the cheers of the crowd.

As Debra holds Bossman in place, Jarrett attacks from behind
While she has hold of Bossman, Jarrett has by now recovered and at 4:20 Debra releases her grip and allows her man to attack Bossman from behind, rolling him back for the pin and victory. A smile on the ring apron and a wave and kiss blown in the direction of the Bossman post-match from ringside completes Debra's work, before she celebrates the significant victory with her men.
 A satisfied Debra leaves victorious
As with all great valets, Debra chose the perfect time to get involved in the match, with the referee out of the ring attending to the skirmish between Hart and Shamrock. Jarrett was down and out at the time of her entrance, but she managed to give her man a full half-minute to recover by unleashing her feminine wiles. Holding onto Bossman towards the end of their encounter ensured his focus was entirely on her and gave Jarrett a vital few extra seconds, allowing him to attack unexpectedly from behind for maximum effect. It was a classic Debra intervention, all done apparently out of the referee's view and turning a likely loss into a win. The only shame is that with it being a non-title match, the win didn't bring Debra the tag-team championship belts that her excellent valet work clearly deserved. Puppie-tastic!
Bossman gets to the bottom of matters
